Therapeutic dogs are assigned to institutions, schools, associations, etc., where a trained handler, after completing specific training, works individually or in groups with children with developmental disabilities, incorporating the therapeutic dog into their sessions.

By including a therapeutic dog into everyday life and existing habilitation/therapy processes, various aspects of an individual's development are targeted:

  • Sensorimotor development

  • Sociocognitive development

  • Communication development

  • Psychosocial and emotional development

The working life of a therapeutic dog is typically 7 to 8 years, after which, based on the assessment of the professional team, the dog is retired.
